England, North and South. Industry . Ports..
There is very little industry or real business activity in the South of England apart from Kent. Kent is served by ports. Ports encourage the development of trade. Trade encourages those real businesses, industry and crafts.
Industry is concentrated in Britain in the Merseyside area and North of England, Yorkshire, Humberside and Newcastle. Even Sheffield and Manchester are not industrial or commercial hubs of activity any more no more than London because Thatcher took a sledgehammer to real economic activity.
Blair tried to reverse industrial decline, welfare dependence and social decay but he was halted abruptly by media and trade union agitation. The broad church of social opposition to renewal, industrial and technical ,has yet to live down its image. It was rooted in political indifference and interference with Labour Party activities and funding.
Blair was basically a benevolent but naive dictator for England unaware of the behind-the-scenes activities of Powell and Campbell and Brown for which he was held largely accountable.
In the North of Ireland,he was certainly not a benevolent dictator or anything remotely matching that description but the brutal and barbaric architect of police terror, mass degradation and multiple suicides and avoidable deaths. He can only be called morally insane. Copious accounts and proofs of mass murder are conclusive of the hysteria this madman thrived on and nurtured in his supporters.
Blair and Thatcher?
Destined to live long in the public memory, for all the wrong reasons. One destroyed the British economy. The other destroyed the constitution.
Great promise! No results!
....
Great civil disorder on a mass scale is coming in England. Why,so? Industrial employment has fallen from 7 800 000 in 1968 to 2 700 000 today and welfare dependency has expanded greatly. To an enormous extent, the working life has been hollowed out.
People are not poorer but many lack a meaningful existence and the balance of employment has shifted In favour of women-only employers.
The National Health Service has become a form of policing chloroform. Many poor people are badly beaten down. On the left,a vote for change is a wasted vote if cast for Labour but such a vote would restore government services.
The real fulcrum of opposition to the next Labour Party administration will come not from the dirt poor but from educated and enlightened people. The people who furnished Lenin's revolutionary party with cadres or teams were the intelligentsia. They are once again destined to lead protest. Why? The working class is too divided along sectional, ethnic and local lines other than to look on from the sidelines. Once again, Marx's brutal follies of putting his faith in the dirt poor are about to be exposed.
That said, the only hope for the betterment of all of society still resides with the working class because the working class operates the levers of society. The working people, not the intelligentsia, determine the ultimate success of a democratic upset and social emancipation.
